Hairdresser Negligence Made My Hair Fall Out

Hair Gone Wrong pictureAwareness of alopecia has risen in recent years, thanks to the brave campaigning work of celebrities like Gail Porter. Gail suffers from the condition and has publically spoken out about its terrible consequences in her life.

Alopecia is a condition which causes dramatic hair loss, which in its worst form can leave the sufferer completely bald. Anyone suffering from alopecia endures traumatic feelings of loss, but the swift and brutal nature of the illness can be especially devastating to women.

Genetic conditions like pattern baldness and receding hairlines make male hair loss more socially acceptable, whereas a woman with alopecia faces ridicule and psychological damage through loss of self esteem. Gail Porter was mocked in the press before she bravely spoke out about her suffering in a moving TV documentary.

Causes of Alopecia:

- Overuse of hair curlers, rollers, and heavy duty hair dyes.

Long term, severe alopecia has also been linked to:

- Serious burns or injury to the scalp
- Medication side effects
- Illness such as viral infection or severe fevers
- Over exposure to X ray radiation

Can Negligent Hairdressers Cause Alopecia?

Jane Clement suffered the horror of temporary hair loss after a hairdressing appointment went badly wrong.

Hair Gone Wrong picture‘ I went to the hairdressers, and my chemical straightening went wrong. I came home with a bald patch which was diagnosed as temporary alopecia. I was mortified. It was nearly a year before the damage was repaired, a year of self loathing and ridicule. I’ve claimed for compensation to recoup the damages. A court victory won’t erase the negligence of the salon, but I will feel like justice has been done.‘
